Guest Appearances

Tape from the Archives collection is a precious resource for researchers, broadcasters and others. Here's a small sampling of our "guest appearances": where and how our material has been used.

C-SPAN Meets Pacifica

During the 2004 election, C-SPAN contacted the Pacifica Radio Archives to inquire if we had the speech of John Kerry before the Senate Foreign Relations committee on April 22, 1971. C-SPAN had contacted the other networks; NBC had only a few minutes of the address captured on film.

We searched our archives and found a program by former Pacifica producer Margot Adler. In addition to the entire speech, we also located 20 minutes of Q & A between John Kerry and the senators on the committee.

C-SPAN spliced our audio into the NBC film footage and, on March 21, 2004, broadcast the complete John Kerry speech for the first time ever — 33 years after Kerry presented his argument before Chairman Sen. J. William Fulbright (D-Arkansas), Sen. Jacob Javits (R-New York), Sen. George D. Aiken (R-New York), Sen. W. Stuart Symington (D-Missouri), Sen. Claiborne Pell (D-Rhode Island) and Sen. Clifford Case (R-New Jersey).
