Job Announcement: Cataloger

 

Established in 1971, the Pacifica Radio Archives is the repository of approximately 50,000 program units, dating from the 1950s through the present day that represent the broadcast history of Pacifica Foundation, a mission-driven non-profit organization. The Pacifica Radio Archives core mission is to collect, preserve and make accessible the records of the Pacifica Foundation.

Responsibilities

The cataloger will work under the supervision of the archives director. This is a full-time, exempt position. The cataloger is responsible for maintaining the physical collection and records database of audio recordings relating to radio programs, concerts, and speeches from Pacifica Stations.

Requirements

A high school education and two years of library or archive experience; or an AA degree, and one year library or archive or the equivalent of the above.

Preferred...

Knowledge of at least one of the following:

  • InMagic, MARC formats, AACR2, AMPP, LCSH, PHP/MYSQL;
  • background or strong interest in broadcast studies, or library and information science, or archival studies;
  • knowledge of contemporary political and cultural history.
Also desirable...
  • Cataloging or indexing experience;
  • Training or experience with audio formats and equipment;
  • Knowledge of archival / library practices particularly for sound recordings.

Candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.

Salary

This is a full- time exempt position. Annual salary: DOE. Excellent benefits: medical, dental, 403 (b), and generous vacation and holidays.
