Journalists in an Environment of Oppression

Description

Speech by journalist and writer Molly Ivins on the failure of those in the media to retain their independence and objectivity in the face of increased oppression. One problem is the restricted ownership of media outlets which contributes to limiting information, sins of ommission, and trivialization of the voices of dissent. She uses her own experiences covering the George Bush administration, and compares the careers of Clayton Williams, President Lyndon Johnson, and Bill Clinton. She concludes by asserting that the economy should be the only story covered by the press, for the near future holds interest rate shock and a banking crisis.

CONTAINS SENSITIVE LANGUAGE.
