Artifacts

Over the course of its history, Pacifica has been in the streets, at rallies, in marches, and at community events. Sometimes the Pacifica reporter was the only media recording these events. Over the years Pacifica staff, volunteers, listeners and devotees have saved materials that help tell the Pacifica story: photos, posters, bumper stickers, fundraising artifacts, news articles, costumes, publications, etc.

We hope—with your help—to gather more. If you have any item related to Pacifica's history, we encourage you to share your treasure by contacting our director, Brian DeShazor: pacarchive@aol.com, 3729 Cahuenga Boulevard West, North Hollywood, CA 91604.

Folios

Folio cover

Since 1949 Pacifica stations have published monthly program guides called Folios. They include broadcast schedules, art, interviews, essays and advertising. Through our Preservation & Access Project, we've digitized some of these so you can look through them online.

Premiums

In 1969 during the time of Vietnam anti-war protests, flower children, Woodstock, free love and the ever-present generation gap, WBAI New York offered this pack of cigarette rolling papers as a gift for donating to the station's fund drives. This photo shows the manufacturer logo with the text "WBAI — Not Just Another Joint."
On the opposite side it listed the 1969 legal penalties for marijuana possession and use.
