Tet Offensive

The Vietnam Tet Offensive, January 31, 1968: President Johnson's state-of-the-union address on January 14, 1968 estimated the cost of the Vietnam war to the U.S. at $25 billion dollars a year. In the morning hours of January 31, the lunar new year, combined forces of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam and the People's Army of Vietnam began a military campaign that became the turning point in the conflict. Record casualties were suffered on both sides.
