Description: 

The first radio play produced in Germany after World War II. The drama traces the return of a German soldier, Sergeant Beckmann, captured at Stalingrad and released from a Siberian concentration camp at the war's conclusion. Through a series of encounters with his former wife, his officer, and a cabaret director, Beckmann finds he has no place left in the world. The play ends when he jumps into the Elbe river.
