Members of various Native American tribes address the problem of alcohol addiction on the reservation. Members of the Blackfeet, Pueblo and Navajo address the debilitating effects of alcohol upon their lives, and how a return to native spiritual roots is a necessary step in the road to recovery. One man recounts his failed efforts at recovery using the traditonal Alcoholics Anonymous methods, but how the recovery process was more successful using traditional religious practics. One such ritual is the sweat lodge, which heightens awareness of the world given up through alcohol. The Native American approach is called the Red Road to Recovery, and utilizes the drum to help the individual be reborn. Every aspect of recovery revolves around ritual to keep the addict in touch with themselves.
