Maria was head of the clemcy board of pardons and parole, a former beauty queen and an abused wife. At 33 years old she became the highest paid official in Tennessee. Rothenberg asserts that she slept her way into her position and ignored corruption like Serpico. It took her a while to realize the governor was in on the corruption and she instituted a federal probe. - Broadcast on July 26, 1983.
