NERUDA'S ALTURAS DE MACCHU PICCHU Pablo Neruda of Chile won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. In 1943, he visited the pre-Incan ruins of Macchu Picchu located high in the Peruvian Andes. The journey forever changed his vision of the world and inspired him to write "Alturas de Macchu Picchu", the Heights of Macchu Picchu. This epic poem is considered one of the seminal works of 20th Century Spanish language poetry. Neruda reads the poem in this bilingual program.
