Description:

On this edition of From the Vault we pay tribute to the life of anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela in three landmark speeches given after his release from prison in 1990, having served 27 years of a life sentence:

- Nelson Mandela’s Address to the United Nations – June 22nd, 1990

- Nelson Mandela at the Oakland Coliseum – June 30th, 1990

- Nelson Mandela’s Inauguration Address as the First Black President of South Africa – May 10th, 1994

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu concludes our program with a quick review on the history of South Africa over the past several decades, culminating with Mandela’s election, from a speech given at All Saints Church in Pasadena, California on June 5th, 1994.
