Description:

Science Story was a bi-monthly program dedicated to the demystification of science and medicine produced for KPFA in 1977 and 1978 by Laurie Garrett, KPFA's Science Editor, and Adi Gevins of the Public Affairs Department. The programs were engineered by Scott McAllister, Philip Maldari, Kevin Vance, Warren Van Orden, and Randy Thom. The series won Pacifica its first Peabody Award in 1978, and while the award was given for the entire series, five specific shows were sent in as samples: Recombinant DNA and the corporate world (AZ0027.03); A visit to the Stanford Primate Research Center (AZ0027.05); The swine flu fiasco (AZ0027.02); Discoveries on the Galapagos Rift (AZ0027.06); and Environmental carcinogens (AZ0027.01). Garrett worked on all five, Gevins on all except the Galapagos program.
