r.1. Johnson Gibbs comes to the farm and talks himself into pitching for the local church league baseball game, even though he has never pitched before. The result is his team's loss to the True Light Rainbow Baptist Church (30 min.) -- r.2. Johnson Gibbs goes fishing. Uncle Luden, who has three wives and can smell whiskey three miles away, comes for a visit (30 min.) -- r.3. Uncle Luden's womanizing results in the family hatching a plan to chase him out before he gets shot by someone's husband (30 min.) -- r.4. Uncle Luden leaves, then Uncle Gerten arrives with his fabled beard. The boys attempt to find out how long the beard is (30 min.) -- r.5. After poking fun at an evangelist preacher, Jess, dad sees God in a tornado (30 min.) -- r.6. Johnson Gibbs comes home from the Army and courts. Father puts a stop to the monkey business by replacing Johnson's bubble gum with a laxative gum (30 min.) -- r.7. Johnson Gibbs leaves to fight Hitler, then the dreaded war department telegram arrives. Uncle Zeno comes to visit and tell his stories (30 min.) -- r.8. Uncle Zeno tells more stores. After he leaves, no one can remember if he visited or not (30 min.) -- r.9. Uncle Runken visits, bringing a coffin which he sleeps in the upstairs bedroom. Jess and his father plot a practical joke for him (30 min.) -- r.10. Jess and Johnson Gibbs become convinced that Doc MacGreavey, the horse doctor, has poisoned their dog. They plot their revenge for Halloween night (30 min.) -- r.11. Jess and his father go fishing, where Jess tries things he never had before (30 min.) -- r.12. Jess and his dad finish fishing and come to terms with Johnson Gibb's death. Aunt Samantha Barefoot, the musician and radio star, come to visit. Jess finds out some surprising facts about his grandmother's past. Judy Miller reads original poetry (30 min.) -- r.13. Aunt Sam's brings the family to a radio show, and Grandma cracks a joke for the first time ever. The story ends with Jess, his Dad, Uncle Luden and Johnson going deer hunting (30 min.).
