Description:

Reports on a demonstration at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California. Burton White and Alex Hoffman cover events at Vallejo, the conclusion of a 600 mile peace march organized by CNVA (Committee for Non-Violent Action) West. Twelve protesters declare their intention to go onto the base and talk with shipyard workers. The program contains actuality of the resulting rally, where the protesters talk about the arms race, communism, and the Soviet Union. Next, Joan Holland and Herbert Foster, Jr. address the crowd about why they are protesting and thanking all those who participated. The marchers then attempt to enter the shipyard and are confronted by authorities who attempt to divert the protest away from the naval base. White interviews Ernest D. Wickel, public relations officer for Mare Island, about the registered letter which Ed Lazar, coordinator of the peace walk, sent to Admiral Fay announcing their intentions to come onto the base. Lazar is arrested for handing out leaflets, and other protesters who attempt to enter the base are arrested to be arraigned under the Subversive Activities Control Act. Produced and narrated by Elsa Knight Thompson.
