Description:
French-Cuban Author Anais Nin (1903-1977) and Rupert Pole read excerpts from her memoirs "The Diary of Anais Nin" which she began writing at the age of 11. She is also the author of "Cities of the Interior." The reading is introduced by KPFK's Frank Roberts. Roberts announces that "The Diary of Anais Nin" has recently been published by the Swallow Press in cooperation with Harcourt, Brace, and World, and the book is already in it's second edition. Based on this information and the information on the box, the recording is dated October 4, 1966, although there is no evidence of this reading in the corresponding folio.
pbcoreAnnotation:
Male announcer, "Ms Nin reads from her recently published "Diary of Anais Nin"". Must be in 1966. She says "The background of the diary is a little subarb of Paris..." A man reads the parts of Henry Miller. May have been used for BC0619--need to listen to them both closely. In BC0619 she says Henry Miller is read by Rupert Paul?

Audio file QC (Pass One) notes:
Hiss and some distortion throughout. Most of the program is a reading of Anais Nin's diary. There's an intrusive crackling noise that begins five minutes from the end that persists until the end.

20150604--in trying to figure out dates for a lot of Nin readings in 1972 i did a bunch of research on this and have decided to go with the date on the box 10/4/66, although it's not in the folio. Also, the original record said KPFA, but frank roberts was kpfk. see this folio too: https://archive.org/stream/kpfafolio1610paci#page/8/mode/2up/search/anais+nin. This recording, though, is not a discussion. it is a reading. jb
2015-07-22 -- The October 1966 KPFA folio does list this program, and notes that it originates from KPFK. Folio also confirms that Rupert Pole is the man reading with her. Can't confirm when it might have aired on KPFK though. -- JG
