PATRICK / Padraigin McGillicuddy. - There existed in ancient Ireland written evidence of a society where women played an unrestricted part in religious, social, and military life of the community. Called the Brehon Laws, this spelled out terms of marriage, divorce, responsibilities, and priviledges. Using St. Patrick as a metaphor for the coming Christianity, Padraigin McGillicuddy compares the two societies, Christian and Pagan, and their attitudes toward women. Comments by bards Robert Callahan and Robert Kelly and Irish feminist Anne Connally. BROADCAST: KPFA, 1981.
