The idea for a community home base came long ago from San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, who was assassinated in 1978. That tragedy was the first in a series of crises to rock the city's queer community over the next few decades, and efforts to realize Milk's dream seemed to fail one right after the other. That is, until now. A spectacular new community center, considered a model for community centers across the U.S., recently held its opening ceremonies. This on-scene coverage provided by This Way Out's BRYAN GOEBEL [with production assistance by PAUL JAFFE] includes comments by San Francisco Supervisor MARK LENO, Mayor WILLIE BROWN, Supervisor TOM AMMIANO, Center Interim Director OREN SLOZBERG, and Center Executive Vice President DANA VAN GORDER (with music from the GLIDE MEMORIAL CHURCH CHOIR). (about 5:30) * In this month's words and music from the "AUDIOFILE", relationships are in bloom, but "out" musicians MARK WEIGLE ("Out Of The Loop"), MAGDALEN HSU-LI ("Fire"), and ANNE ENGEL ("Endless Possibilities") will delight you with the variety of songs they've grown [hosted by CHRIS WILSON & JD DOYLE and written & produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM].(about 8:10)
