Description:
Catharine R. Stimpson speaks on 'Women's liberation and Black Civil Rights." Stimpson, a Literature professor from Barnard College, speaks about the relationship between the Women's movement and the Black Civil Rights movement and possible tensions. Contains a very passionate question and answer period with well-known feminist theorists (although their identities are not obvious). Recorded in WBAI's studio C. The program is introduced by producer Nanette Rainone who also introduces this new series "The Women's School." See more information about the series here: http://pacificaradioarchives.org/recording/bc0981. This program was on 2 reels, but there is 1 digital file containing both parts.

Audio file QC (Pass One) notes:
Part 1. Recording exceeded 2 GB limit. Split into two files with 10 second overlap. File one (52:15): Hiss, a little echoey at first because of the room. Nanette Ranone, the first in a series called Women's school. Been hosting a consciousness-raising group for two years. Projecting that on the various sciences, art, literature, and history. Biweekly lectures from women writers and scholars. First lecturer was to be Eleanor Flexner, but was ill and cancelled. Katherine Stimson from Barnard English Department is the guest tonight. Talks on Feminism and the Black Movement, Revisited. Interesting moment right before the track changes: she asks who should be the first non-white man president: a black man, a black woman, or a white woman. File two (20:02): Hum, hiss. 54 minutes into the program begins the Q&A. No outro. Ends abruptly.
Part 2. no intro our outro. JB note: Part 2 is mostly overlap except the outro by nanette rainone. I sutured the end onto Part 1 so the first instantiation is the complete program.
