They're talking about underground comics, not that the convention is underground. Sound quality is variable, as this program is made from clips of many different recordings (interviews, etc.) at the first underground comic convention that happened in Berkeley, CA "this April". Hissy, a lot of times. Also, according to Wikipedia, there were actually underground comics conventions as early as 1973.
