Wealth addiction and the emotional meaning of money / Philip Slater ; interviewed by Bob DeBolt.
Philip Slater, author of "The Pursuit of Loneliness," "Earthwalk," and "Wealth Addiction," discusses how the acquisition of money is the major addiction in our society. It begins at birth, and we grow up feeling empty and alienated. A basic lack of love leads to a feeling of inner emptiness, which people attempt to fill with money and things. Money has become a symbol of love, with success meaning you are worthy of love. All one needs to do is read the biographies of the wealthy to see that they are inwardly poor and incredible misers. Slater suggests that we need to develop our real selves so that we will not need to substitute money for love.|WEALTH ADDICTION AND THE EMOTIONAL MEANING OF MONEY / Philip Slater| interviewed by Bob DeBolt. - Philip Slater, author of "The Pursuit of Loneliness," "Earthwalk," and "Wealth Addiction," discusses how the acquisition of money is the major addiction in our society.
