SURRENDERING POWER TO THE EXECUTIVE / Gore Vidal. - Author and political analyst Gore Vidal speaks about the social, economic and political conditions in the United States. Both Congress and the Supreme Court have handed more and more power to the Executive branch, which only serves to increase the power of the economic elite. The political system can not respond to the debt crisis, which has grown from $1 trillion in 1980 to $4 trillion in 1992. The Savings and Loan bailout will cost the United States more than World War II. Vidal warns that a people deprived of a decent living for too long will eventually revolt against the oppressive system.
