Description:

THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE / Gore Vidal| interviewed by Dennis Bernstein and Greg Satkamp. - Phone interview with Gore Vidal in which he explains the implications of his latest book, "The Decline and Fall of the American Empire." He argues that money power has shifted from New York to Tokyo, making the United States the largest debtor nation. The early 20th century U.S. expansion was based upon naval power, but maintaining that power has lead to the huge national debt. He goes on to address the Savings and Loan bailout, creation of the National Security State, and the ineffectiveness of the political process. At the core of the decline is the exportation of jobs coupled with 4 trillion dollars wasted on wars in which we are no longer players. He suggests that it is time for a People's Convention. It is imperative that we join with the Russians to battle the growth of Japanese economic power, and that our continual anti-Third World policies are creating great anti-white sentiment around the world.
