On February 18, 1968, the day after Huey P. Newton's birthday, a group of Black Power and civil rights activists held a rally in Los Angeles at the Sports Arena in honor of Newton's birthday and to show support while Newton was incarcerated for manslaughter. Speakers Bobby Seale, H. Rap Brown (Jamil Al-Amin), and Stokely Carmichael delivered the same speeches in Los Angeles that they gave the day before at the Oakland Auditorium (see Archive #BB1708 and BB5471). They were also joined by Los Angeles-area activists. This reel features speeches by Reies Tijerina, Ron (Maulana) Karenga, H. Rap Brown (Jamil Al-Amin), and Stokely Carmichael. Part 2 of 3. Part 1 speakers include James Forman, Walter Fremont, Reverend Tom Kilgore, Bobby Seale, Anselmo Tijerina, and Moctezuma Esparza. Reel 3 is currently unavailable, so only reels 1 and 2 have been digitized.
Previously cataloged as Black Power Rally, Part 2.
