Marin District Attorney Bruce Bales makes a public statement regarding the charges brought against Stephen Bingham in connection with the death of George Jackson at a press conference held on August 31, 1971. Bales charged Bingham on five counts of murder, including three officers and two inmates. [Bingham fled the United States, then returned and surrendered in 1984. He stood trial and was acquitted of all charges in 1986.]
