And, its our second day back on Pacificas airwaves. 9:01-9:06 HEADLINES 9:06-9:07 ONE MINUTE MUSIC BREAK 9:07-9:20 AS PACIFICA STATIONS WBAI, KPFK AND WPFW CONTINUE TO CENSOR DEMOCRACY NOW!, A MEDLY OF THE VOICES THAT PACIFICA HAS REFUSED TO AIR SINCE SEPTEMBER 11 This is day two of Democracy Now!s return to the airwaves of Pacifica Radio after five months in exile. At its first meeting just over one week ago, Pacifica's new interim national board voted by a 2/3 majority to bring back Democracy Now! to its original time slots on all 5 stations. But the censorship and banning continues. Yesterday, New York Pacifica station WBAI banned the show from the airwaves, and barred Democracy Now! technical engineer Anthony Sloan from entering the station. In Los Angeles, KPFK General Manager Mark Schubb refused to air the show at its regular 9 oclock time slotwhen the station has its largest listening audience. The station did air it at 6am. And WPFW in Washington began the program ten minutes into the broadcast and censored the end of the show. That was when I dedicated the program to the banned and fired at WBAI and to Fidel Rodriquez and his seditions beats program that was pulled off the air by KPFKs General Manager Mark Schub. So for those of you who were prevented from hearing yesterday, we rededicate his program to our fired and banned colleagues. Were going to hear a few of the voices that Pacifica has refused to air over the last few months. After September 11, we broadcast a daily, two hour War and Peace Report. While were sorry that Pacifica listeners couldnt hear this, we thank the hundred community radio stations, public access TV stations, and Free Speech TV (channel 9415) that did broadcast our daily program. Here is a medly of what Pacifica listeners missed. TAPE: WAR AND PEACE REPORT MEDLY, including historian Howard Zinn; Rita Lasar, who lost her brother in the World Trade Center; British journalist Robert Fisk; singer Patti Smith; Rev. Lucius Walker; Haider Rizvi, a Pakistani U.N. reporter who was beaten up in a Brooklyn hate crime; South African Muslim liberation theologian Farid Esack; and others. 9:20-9:21 ONE MINUTE MUSIC BREAK 9:21-9:35 WAR AND PEACE REPORT MEDLY, CONTD 9:35-9:40 FROM ONE GROUND ZERO TO ANOTHER: A NEW YORKER WHO LOST HER BROTHER IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, AND AN AFGHAN-AMERICAN WHO LOST 19 MEMBERS OF HER FAMILY IN THE US BOMBING MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME ON DEMOCRACY NOW!
