Gore Vidal published his first novel at the age of 21, and went on to write many more novels, plays, and screenplays. Vidal, whose grandfather was a U.S. Senator and father was an aviation pioneer who worked for the Roosevelt Administration, ran for Congress in 1960, but lost. This prolific author and social commentator is an eloquent speaker, he draws crowds wherever he speaks, and has championed liberal causes his entire life.
