From the Vault 254: Women\'s Music & Poetry from the Coffeehouse

Continuing on our celebration of National Women’s History Month on From the Vault, we arrive at special recording from 1977 called From the Women’s Coffee House: A Program of Music & Poetry, a live benefit for Pacifica Station WBAI Women’s Programming in New York. Guests on the show include Folkways recording artist Suni Paz, cellist Martha Siegel, and poets Alice Walker and Sharon Thompson. It is worth noting that this event took place five years before Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winner The Color Purple was published – giving us an opportunity to experience the earlier work of a budding icon.
