Putney, Gail J.
Dr. Gail J. Putney, also known as Gail Jackson Fullerton and Gail Putney Fullerton, was the first and currently only woman president of San Jose State University, presiding from 1978-1991. Previous to that office, Putney was most well-known as a professor of sociology at SJSU, and author of many books, including Survival In Marriage, The Adjusted American, and The Normal Neurosis. Putney was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1927.
