Vera Johnson, herself

Vera Johnson (1920-2007), a 52-year old native Canadian folk singer (at the time of this recording), sings with her masterful lyrics about her life, politics, and the women's movement. Vera came to Houston in February 1973 to sing for the National Women's Political Caucus, which was hosting their first convention, in Houston, Texas from February 9-11, 1973.

This is an intimate set of interviews with five women whose lives are both typical and unique; unique portraits of women outside of traditional gender roles. Subjects include a domestic worker, a Chicana who wanted to be a dancer, an elderly executive into Zen, and a teenage "biker chick" (motorcyclist), and a lower class White mother. Politcial and economic inequality : from past to present / Craig Washington.

Talk by Representative Craig Washington on the basis for inequality in the United States. He provides a historical background of Black rights, from slavery through reconstruction and up to the present. At the core, the Civil Rights and Labor movements have a fundamental bond: fighting inequality, for none can be free in this country until all are free.

Speech by Ann Richards which examines the declining level of life in the United States, starting in the 1980's. Richards calls for the United States to invest in its youth. She points to the legacy of Thurgood Marshall, who worked against history to change the United States.
