A short documentary on the life of Fannie Lou Hamer (1917 - 1977), leader of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Includes Hamer's recollections about the early civil rights movement. Hamer speaks about her early exposure to voting rights and her conversion to the campaign for human rights, about her torture at the hands of Mississippi police, and about the Justice Department's attitude toward the violation of her civil rights.
