Moctesuma Esparza introduces folk singer Suni Paz, who performs some songs and discusses her life and career. Paz talks about her work with El Grupo, a bilingual activism and poetry-based musical ensemble who performed in New York and Puerto Rico. She performs Victor Jara’s “La plegaria a un labrador” (00:05:00), “Chile, paloma herida” (00:30:11), “Niña mujer” (00:36:01). “Anunciando” (00:40:53). “La bamba chicana” (00:48:11) and “En la brecha” (words by José de Diego). (00:51:58) in the studio. Paz plays clips of El Grupo’s “Esta canciones diferentes” (00:13:16), “Pedro Pueblo” (00:19:34), and “Canción por el flor y fusil” (00:26:34), performed live at Hunter College. Interview conducted in both Spanish and English.
