9:00-9:01 Billboard: 9:01-9:06 Headlines: President Bush Signs Tax Law that Excludes Some of the Country s Poorest Families from Receiving Child Tax Credit On Wednesday, President Bush signed into law the third tax cut in three years. Bush signed the bill in the East Room of the White House, among gilded mirrors, and chandeliers, and in front of dozens of cameras and hundreds of lobbyists, aides and taxpayers. He claimed the measure will create jobs and give money back to working people. But after studying the bill approved last Friday, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and child advocacy groups discovered that some of the country s poorest families, families who make just above the minimum wage, will not receive the kickback. <sum> Bob Greenstein, executive director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities Link: http://www.cdpp.org 9:06-9:58: Today, part two of our special with legendary civil rights singers, Sweet Honey in the Rock. Since 1973, Sweet Honey in the Rock has reinvented a cappella music and introduced a generation to the roots of African-American music: gospel, spirituals and hymns as well as the blues and jazz. The Grammy Award-winning group has released 18 albums and has toured the world. This year they are celebrating their 30th year together. It was 1973 when Bernice Johnson Reagon brought together a group of female singers to form an a cappella group. At the time Reagon was the music director of the old D.C. Black Repertory Theater Company. The first song they practiced was called Sweet Honey in the Rock. The tune referenced a religious parable that spoke of a land so rich that when rocks were cracked open, honey flowed from them. * Sweet Honey in the Rock Special - Part II Songs: <sum> Study War No More <sum> Women Gather <sum> Greed <sum> Run <sum> Would You Harbor Me <sum> Ballad of Harry T Moore <sum> I Remember I Believe <sum> Ella Song 9:58-9:59 Outro and Credits Democracy Now! is produced by Kris Abrams, Mike Burke, Angie Karran, Sharif Abdul Kouddous, Ana Nogueira, Elizabeth Press with help from Noah Reibel and Vilka Tzouras.
