Sociology Professor John Leggett reads telegram from James Farmer, national chair of C.O.R.E., regarding the recent demonstrations which involved fundamental issues of the rights of free speech and peaceful protest and how students have been brutally repressed by both the university and the state administrations. Leggett also reads a message from George Hardy, Secretary of California State Council of Building Service Employees, expressing their full support of the courageous young people who are standing up and fighting for the cause in which they believe. Hal Draper describes actions taken by campus local of the American Federation of Teachers. Martin Roysher reads a telegram from Bayard Rustin, chief organizer of the 1963 civil rights March on Washington, and John Lewis, National Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee. Mario Savio describes certain police actions during the sit-in arrests. Savio recounts attempts to meet with chief of campus police regarding meeting with FSM lawyer, Alex Hoffman, as well as his experiences with the Santa Rita Jail conditions.
