Program Title:
The Negro writer in America
PRA Archive #:
BB1070
Description:
On the second day of the Negro writers' conference held at Asilomar, KPFA reporters Kenneth Rexroth and Al Silbowitz asked the first three conference speakers, Saunders Redding, Harvey Swados, and LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka), to join them in a discussion about the conference thus far. The panel discusses the audience at the conference so far, and the problems and promise of Black authors. As Silbowitz says at the beginning of the recording, "In a manner typical of the conference, the conversation did not remain confined to literary matters for very long, which is to be expected when dealing with a body of writing so deeply embedded in controversy." Moderated by Al Silbowitz and Norm McGhee.
