Documentary which explores the work of Herman Melville, and compares the moral and intellectual framework of Melville and John Milton, and supplies selected readings to support this perspective. Ahab, the central character in "Moby Dick," is not the totalitarian dictator which traditional literary scholarship suggests, but is actually Milton himself, as a symbol of artist and thinker. A reaccuring theme in Melville's work, continues Spark, is the moderate man as the victim of the wicked man.
